Welding & Fabrication

Join metal together for artistic or functional purposes. Cutting, design, and layout are just as critical as running a welder.

Welding

Welding metal is a process of heating the piece enough that it melts and fuses together, becoming one piece. Welding methods differ in how they apply the heat and metal, but all share those commonalities. At ShopSpace we begin with MIG welding, which is fairly easy to learn and is operated similar to a hot glue gun. We follow that up with a class learning TIG welding, and have classes focused on a few beginning projects to teach the elements of design and fabrication. Good fabrication involves having something be straight, even, level, plumb, and square, and we focus as much on careful and precise layout as we do welding itself. Our Open Studio time is an important way to develop your welding skills, practicing your consistency and precision on practice pieces or personal projects.
